That pretty much sums up our day. We had Addalie's MAG 3 Renal Scan today. She did great, but it didn't really happen. First of all they had to put a cathedar in- which of course Addalie hated & so she screamed. Then they had to put the IV in. They put her on a table & strapped her down....feet & all. (which for Addalie is a big deal because if she's awake, she is ALWAYS moving. Usually kicking & very active.) First they tried her arm & couldn't get it. So they tried her other arm, couldn't get it...So they called a different tech in, they tried couldn't get it...So they called a pediatric tech down & she tried her foot... but she couldn't get it either. The whole time Addalie was screaming-screaming-screaming. Basically her viens are about the same size as the needles that they use, so for them to get any IV in is hard. The last resort was to try a scalpal vein. (in her head) Well, I wasn't quite prepared for this. So when the nurse started commenting about how she could "see some good veins in her head" i almost passed out. So we decided to call it quits.
We might wait until she is a little older in hopes of her veins being bigger, or we might have to do a different procedure. Not sure. Right now she is sleeping & I have a feeling that she won't wake up anytime soon. She is worn out.
