Hydronephrosis...

...is the official name for Addalie's enlarged kidney. Fairly early on in my pregnancy during one of my MANY ultra sounds, the specialist told us that Addalie had an enlarged kidney. They continued to watch it during the pregnancy & soon after Addalie was born the doctors were doing tests & ultrasounds on her. When she was a few days old she had a procedure done to test for reflux. Thankfully the results were negative but the cause of the swelling is still unknown. Yesterday we had an appointment & another ultra sound. Her kidney is still very large. Next week she will have to go to the hospital to have a MAG Renal Scan. Basically what that means is that she will have an IV put into her arm & they will inject a radioactive fluid. They will watch to see how both of her kidneys process the fluid. She will also have a cathedar in. From this test, the doctors will be able to determine a number of different things about the % of function in her kidney. Hopefully they will gain some insight as to why her kidney is so enlarged & if she will need surgery or not. She has been on antibiotics since she was born because of this & we feel like they are causing problems with her digestion.
